Previously on "The Mysteries of Our Lives"
Rochelle: "Oh my god, there is so much blood. Oh my god."
Kavina: "Get a hold of yourself!" (~)
Romain: Let’s stop wasting time denying our attraction for each other and be together.
Sherri: Then what? Sweep all the secrets and distrust under the rug. I can’t do that. (~)
Kyle: A second chance?
Lacreasha: You blew your second chance…
Kyle: (attempts to cut her off) Lacreasha?
Lacreasha: No. (turning to her fiancé) You cannot believe a word that comes out of this man’s mouth.
***Lacreasha: (she corners him out on the balcony of Monte Carlos) Hey, we just got engaged. I hope you’re not avoiding me already.
Kyle: No, I just thought I would step out here and catch a breath of fresh air, that’s all.
Lacreasha: (smiles faintly, not entirely convinced by his excuse) Oh.
Kyle: Did Anton and Malina leave yet?
Lacreasha: No. Last I saw, they were clearing out the back room they used to store our gifts and the cake. (she pauses momentarily) So, are you all right? I mean, your father just came in here and made this huge spill about another chance.
Kyle: I’m fine. (he gives her a light smooch on the cheek) I’m going to go help Malina and Anton load that stuff into the car. (he swiftly makes his way inside the restaurant, leaving her to embrace the mint cool air)
Romain: Why do I continue to let you do this to me?
Sherri: Me? Do this to you? You are the one that has been lying and kissing my sister.
Romain: Why do you give a damn? You have told me more times than I can count that it is over between us. I was just dumb enough to be sucked in time and time again. But now I can so clearly see that you’re not the woman I fell in love with.
(<- Cypress Gardens Plaza ->)
Liam: (hugging her tightly) Welcome back.
Rochelle: (enjoying the nice warm embrace) It’s nice to be back. (she then breaks the hug) So what has been going on while I’ve been away?
Liam: Nonsense. We have all the time in the world to talk about the latest in Hallandale. You’re going to sit down and tell me about your trip, and I mean every last detail. (her mind instantly flashes to her recollection in Coral Springs)
Rochelle: "Oh my god, there is so much blood. Oh my god."
Kavina: "Get a hold of yourself!"
Liam: Rochelle. (her eyes pop out at him) Hey, are you okay?
Malina: (as she scans the empty restaurant and notices Lacreasha coming in from the balcony and quickly makes her way over) Hey, where have you been?
Lacreasha: Just enjoying the breeze. I thought you were helping Anton and Kyle.
Malina: (sighs with a grin) The boys decided they could handle things themselves. So how are you holding up after that stunt with Alexander Pierre?
Lacreasha: (scoffs) Don’t remind me. (She pauses momentarily as she combs her hand through her hair) I’m just worried how Kyle’s reacting to it. He’s never been really open about his relationship with his father, but I know there is a lot of hurt and that this stunt had to affect him on some level.
Kyle: (grunts as he and Anton lift the king size package to the car) What the hell is this?
Anton: I don’t know, but the shit weighs a ton.
Kyle: No Kidding. Perhaps I’ll make an amendum for you guys to skip the presents when the actual wedding rolls around. (he bellows, which is followed by a snicker from Anton as they reach the trunk of Kyle’s car and hurdle the package over the opening, dropping it carefully inside. Kyle closes the trunk and pats his hands together) The remaining gifts should fit in the backseat.
Anton: (following behind) Can I ask you something?
Kyle: (picking up some of the smaller remaining presents) I guess it depends on the question. (he eyes him squarely before moving back toward his car to discard the gifts he was holding)
Anton: Do you feel any different now being engaged? I mean, compared to before, when things were not so official.
Kyle: (his head towered over in the backseat) I guess. I mean, the love is still the same, but it’s like we’re on new territory, you know? New avenues to explore. (he remarks, sticking his head out of the vehicle and meeting Anton’s eyesight) Why do you ask? Are you thinking of proposing to Malina?
(<- Cypress Gardens Plaza ->)
Liam: (leading her to a stool to sit) Are you sure you’re fine? You seem completely out of it a minute ago.
Rochelle: I’m sure. It has been a strange trip. I guess its finally taking its toll on me.
Liam: Well, how strange was it? I mean, seeing your mother again?
Rochelle: (she begins to bunch her shoulders together just recalling the moment she and her mother came face to face again) It was – it was tense. We had a lot of things to work out. There were a lot of surprises. (She begins to loosen her shoulders, finding calmer ground)
Liam: Good or bad?
Rochelle: Depends on who you ask. (she pauses for a moment, then spits it out in one breath) My mom remarried.
Liam: Yeah, that’s never easy to handle at any age.
Rochelle: Especially when the candidate in question is Dean Stone’s father.
Liam: What? (the unquestionable shock written on his face) Your mother and your ex’s father? (there is undeniable silence in between each of his sentences) Wow, I can understand why you might have a hard time digesting it. My god, it’s almost outright incestuous. (Rochelle shutters at the reality of Liam’s words)
***Liam: (taking note of her sudden quietness) I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to --
Rochelle: No, its okay. Like you said, it’s a hard situation to digest.
Liam: (nods in accordance) Do you think he knows?
Rochelle: Who? Knows What?
Liam: Dean… that his own sister was practically sleeping with his brother – her brother.
Rochelle: (outraged) What?
Liam: (his real words being reiterated) “About your mother and his father’s marriage, you think he knows?”
Rochelle: (her heart starts to beat normally again) No. Not likely.
(<- Monte Carlos ->)
Anton: The big “M.” Yeah, I thought about it.
Kyle: (places the last of the gifts in the car, then shuts the door and reclines his back upward against it) So what’s holding you back?
Anton: Well, I’m new to all of this. Malina’s the first serious relationship I ever had.
Kyle: So you’re committed to her, then?
Anton: Yeah, but does that mean marriage is the next step, the right step.
Kyle: That’s something you need to ask yourself and aside from the obvious of whether or not you love her, but where does she fit in the grand scheme of things? (Anton nods his head, taking in the words)
Malina: (taking a seat at one of the many empty tables in the room) So what did you make of Alexander’s spiel?
Lacreasha: (turning from the armrest of the balcony door) What? That he wants to make amends with his son after all this time? It doesn’t bode well with me.
Malina: So you don’t think there could be any truth to it at all?
Lacreasha: I have a hard time trusting a man that has thrown racial epithets at my fiancé over the years and if Alexander believes one little heartfelt speech is going to erase all that, he’s sadly mistaken.
Sherri: I’m not the woman you fell in love with? Well, you’re sure as hell not the man that I fell in love with.
Romain: (jumps swiftly in) Then we admit that we both have changed. That the only things we are chasing after are figments of our imagination.
Sherri: What are you babbling about?
Romain: The apparent end of this ideal romance that I believed we could have. (he slightly raises his right arm, which you can see tremble as he lets out such final words) I can’t do it anymore. I can’t continue to hold on to hope that you’ll eventually get past the past.
Malina: (standing alongside Lacreasha near the balcony door) You seem more upset about Alexander than Kyle does.
Lacreasha: Well, if you had seen the impact of Alexander’s verbal abuse on Kyle over the years like I have, you would understand. I just don’t trust the man, and I don’t like him. But you think he’s sincere?
Malina: I don’t know. People change and back when I was a friend of the family, I saw a side of Alexander that most people didn’t get to see. Maybe that side of him is finally being explored to its full potential. (Lacreasha makes a heavy sigh, avoiding eye contact with Malina) You don’t agree?
Lacreasha: (trying to hold back her obvious disagreement) I think it’s admirable that you’re able to hold onto the good in people.
Malina: But? (Lacreasha is hesitant to answer and just as she is ready to give an answer, Anton and Kyle call them out from the entrance)
Anton and Kyle: Ladies, are you ready to roll?
(<- Outside of Monte Carlos ->)
Sherri: (taking a few steps toward Romain, who now leans against the south exterior wall of the building) This isn’t the first time you have given up on us.
Romain: (he lightly directs his eyes in her direction) No, but it is the last time. (a few seconds of silence follows before he averts her gaze and looks out indirectly, his eyes making the occasional glance back at her) The reason that I was sucked into Sandy’s web of matchmaking is because I wanted to believe what she believed about us. That we had something special worth fighting for. I held onto hope, but its time for me to let it go. Tonight made that clearly obvious.
Sherri: (like venom, she spits the fact in his face) You were kissing my sister.
Romain: (he shouts) Stop! You can not continue to do this. We weren’t together and we’re not together now. You don’t have a right to voice disdain over who I kiss, even if that women is your sister.
Sherri: I realize that we aren’t together.
Romain: (his inquires swiftly, his doubt clear) Really? My hope for us wasn’t one-sided, I got signals from you every step of the way. But you always managed to push me away. Well, now I’m pushing you away.
Sherri: Well, goodie for you Romain. Does that make you feel better?
Romain: (his eyes begin to swell up as his voice tries to resist the urge to crack) No. It pains me and it breaks my heart, but I have to let you go and you have to let me go. The hope needs to die in you too, Sherri.
Sherri: Then let me go, Romain. Just go— (her words are muffled as he kisses her, only for him, it would be the very last time. As their lips part, Sherri is speechless and what comes next is even more heart stopping)
Romain: Goodbye, Sherri. (he says, looking her in the eye one last time before parting down the narrow street way)
(<- Cypress Gardens Plaza ->)
Liam: So, are you going to tell Dean?
Rochelle: Why should I?
Liam: Well, I guess there isn’t a reason you should.
Rochelle: (distracting herself by twiddling her straw in her drink) I just think its something my mother and his father should have the pleasure of breaking too him. (she tears herself away from the ripples in her drink) Besides, I haven’t seen much of him since the verdict in his brother’s murder trial.
Liam: I wish I could say the same.
Rochelle: He’s still making an uproar?
Liam: Yeah, and who can blame him? The deal Kavina got for murdering his brother was pretty lousy.
Rochelle: Well, unfortunately, the jury made its decision.
Liam: Just don’t count on Dean staying quiet about it for too long.
***Rochelle: (her curiosity peaked) What does that mean?
Liam: (gives her that playful “why don’t you guess” tone) What do you think it means?
Rochelle: I guess that means you’re not at liberty to say.
Liam: Bingo.
Rochelle: So there wouldn’t be any way I could convince you to spill just a tiny detail?
Liam: (smirks) You’re cute, but not that cute.
Rochelle: Ouch!
Liam: Hey, I’ll make it up to you.
Rochelle: How?
Liam: Coffee at my place.
Rochelle: Okay. (he gets up and pulls out her chair. She then extends her arm around his waist, he reciprocates the motion as they begin to walk off) Only you’re also going to tell me what’s been going on while I’ve been away.
Liam: I should have known there was a hitch.
(<- Monte Carlos ->)
Sherri strolls into the empty restaurant; the lights have been dimmed, indicating that the place was closed for business. She walks about halfway in the middle of the restaurant, her eyes becoming affixed on the table where she made a spectacle of herself. She then recalls Romain’s quite recent words.
Romain: “I can’t do it anymore. I can’t continue to hold on to hope that you’ll eventually get past the past.”
Sherri: “This isn’t the first time you have given up on us.”
Romain: “No, but it’s the last time.” (Sherri mind leaves the recall as she slightly lifts her head, only to see surrounding her a cold, empty room)
(<- Sky Lansing Condos ->)
Sandy: (dressed in her nightgown, she answers a knock at her door and is surprise to see him standing before her) Romain. (she adjusts the covering of her gown) What are you doing here?
Romain: I just wanted to see how you were doing.
Sandy: (she smiles, which is surprising for her considering her encounter with Mitchell) It’s been a long night, but I’m fine, thank you.
Romain: Good. I guess I’ll let you put the day to rest then. Good night. (he quickly departs)
Sandy: (she remarks once he’s halfway gone, looking down the archway) Good night.
