Previously on “The Mysteries of Our Lives”: Spring of Devastation
Derek:  It’s understandable that you’re worried and looking for the easiest person to blame.
Shanna:  Oh, this isn’t about finding comfort in faulting someone else. (her voice raises) My husband is missing and you have no idea where he is and I keep seeing your desperate wife’s face. (~)
Widlin:  Whatever punishment I must suffer will be better than the misery that I have suffered through for the past thirteen years.
Alexander:  Even death?  Will death be better? (~)
Vanessa:  Damn, you must have enjoyed that Danielle, but don’t you worry-- (slamming her fist down on a picture of Danielle) because you’ve interfered for the last time. (~)
Child:  “Get away from me... you killer, you killer, killer...” (his words echo as Robin gasps, awakening from the horrid dream in a cold sweat)
***Robin: (opening her door) Delilah!
Delilah:  Robin, may I come in?
Robin: (initial shock warring off) Sure, yeah. (stepping aside as Delilah makes her way inside) What brings you here?
Delilah:  Well, I got a very strange feeling when I was talking to you on the phone earlier and I decided to see for myself that everything was all right.
Robin:  Well, of course everything is all right, why wouldn’t it be?
Delilah:  (lifting her eyebrow) You tell me!
(<- Hunks & Beauty Fashion International ->)
Danielle: (entering the studio with Lucien behind, carrying takeout bags) Vanessa?  You don’t think she left already, do you?
Lucien:  No, (settling the bags on the table) I called her at home and she wasn’t there.  Besides, her car is still outside.  Meaning, she’s probably busy somewhere around here.  Hopefully, she will pop up before the food gets cold.  I’m going to go and see if I can scrounge up some tableware.
Danielle:  Okay. (Lucien vacates and she thinks to herself) So where are you, Vanessa?
(<- Crystal’s Fantasy & Associates ->)
Crystal:  So you’re quitting?
Alfonso:  I prefer to think of it as resigning, parting on mutual terms.
Billy:  and you say this is the reason Mindy stormed out?
Alfonso:  She didn’t take the news as well as I hoped.
Billy:  Obviously.
Alfonso:  Why do I get the sense of bitterness here?
Billy:  Well, we signed on for a partnership here, we’re a bit shocked to hear you’re walking out on it.
Alfonso:  Well, as you know, that partnership never took off.
Crystal:  You know that there were circumstances beyond our control that resulted in that.
Alfonso:  Yeah, Billy’s shooting.  I know and I understand and I put my life on hold while I help managed this club through most of Billy’s stay in the hospital, but I think I’ve put my life on hold long enough.
(<- Garden Ridges Park ->)
Widlin: (Devon sneaks upon her, causing her to nearly jump out of her skin) Devon, what the--
Devon:  Widlin, I’m sorry I startled you.
Widlin:  Then perhaps you shouldn’t sneak up on someone in a deserted park. (walking ahead out of the enclosed area he cornered her in)
Devon:  I apologize, it’s just you’re a hard woman to track down.
Widlin:  Well, I don’t know why you’re so anxious to track me-- of course, I guess the police aren’t too far behind.
Devon:  What?  I was actually--
Widlin:  Making sure you were present for the big moment when your brother’s killer is arrested and carted off in handcuffs?  Well, I’m here, so you can have your candid moment.
(<- El Club de Moniasis ->)
Derek:  Thanks for the drink, bartender.
Shalia: (approaching the club outside) I don’t understand why we’re wasting time, the more time I “conveniently” spend out of sight, the more suspicious Derek is going to become.
Andrew:  It’s only been 24 hours.  Besides, we need to be sure you know exactly what you’re going to say and do when your hubby confronts you with these accusations.
Shalia:  How can you be so sure he will?  I mean Derek and I have really become close.
Andrew:  Believe me, he will.  I heard the lovely Mrs. Hemmings voice when she got the news of her husband’s disappearance, he’s going to want some answers.  Shanna made sure of that and walking into this situation blindly as if you and Derek have some fantasy relationship is the biggest mistake you can make.
*Theme Song*
Danielle: (walking back into the main area of the studio) Vanessa, I didn’t hear you come in.
Vanessa: (turning to her voice) I wasn’t aware anyone was here.  I thought you and Lucien went off to Monte Carlos.
Danielle:  Actually, we decided it would be better for us to eat here.  Perhaps making it more impossible for you to refuse to join us.
Vanessa:  That’s very nice of you considering.  I’m sure Lucien must have been impressed.
Danielle:  Well, he was upset about turning down your offer and leaving you here alone, so I suggested bringing Monte Carlos back to you.
Vanessa: (flatly, with discontent) How noble of you!
Danielle:  Is there something wrong?
Vanessa:  What isn’t wrong?  This purer than salt act, the fact that you got a job you weren’t even qualified for or maybe the fact that you’re using me to get your hands on Lucien.  (Danielle scoffs)
(<- Garden Ridges Park ->)
Devon:  You can relax.   I’m not here to gloat in your misery, although no one would blame me if I were.
Widlin:  Then why are you looking for me?  Why haven’t the cops come knocking on my door?
Devon:  Because I took some time to think about things since your disturbing confession.
Widlin:  Why?  I told you everything that went down that night.
Devon:  So you say, but I had some irrefutable evidence to take into account.
Widlin:  Evidence?
Devon:  My brother’s letters.
(<- El Club de Moniasis ->)
Darron: (waiting at his table as Juliet finally appears, sneaking up behind him) I thought you might have skipped out on me.
Juliet:  Not a chance!  But I am getting restless, what do you say we go see a movie?
Darron:  Depends, my place or yours? (Darron smiles and Juliet returns it cunningly as Brian approaches)
Brian:  Hey Darron.  I’m sorry to interrupt, but I was hoping to borrow a couple minutes of your time.  (Juliet turns her attention away from Brian and back to Darron, who’s thrown by the encounter)
Shalia:  I am not walking into this blindly.
Andrew:  Good, because I think Derek is wearing enough blinders for both of you.
Shalia:  We’ve become very close these past few months.
Andrew:  Yes, it’s obvious, he’s very protective of you and I must say that has worked to our advantage.  But one false move, one false pretense and that could blow to shambles.
Shalia:  I think I can handle Derek.
Andrew:  Yes, that’s why we hired you, but feelings can make you do foolish things.
Shalia:  I have no intention on doing anything foolish, now can we go inside.  (She proceeds to the entrance of the club, but quickly turns away as she spots Derek straight ahead) Oh my god.
Andrew:  What?
Shalia:  Derek’s in there and I think he saw me.  (turning back slightly) Oh yeah, he’s coming.  You’d better scatter.
Andrew:  All right, you call me when you’re done with Derek.
Shalia:  Yeah, go!  (shooing him away, Andrew finally races off as Derek comes out)
Derek:  Shalia?
Shalia: (turning quickly to the sound of her name) Derek, I wasn’t expecting to run into you here.  (Derek looks on silently) Is there something wrong?
Derek:  I saw you about to enter the club earlier and then you suddenly ducked out.
Shalia:  Okay.  Is it a crime to take another minute to compose yourself?
Derek:  No, it isn’t, but–
Shalia:  But what?
Derek:  But why do I get the feeling you’ve been avoiding me?
***Robin:  I’m sorry, but if you came here because of a feeling that something was wrong, you’ve wasted a trip.  (Robin walks over to a nearby coffee table)
Delilah: (turning to Robin, whose back faces her) So everything is all right?
Robin:  I’m married to the man I love and I’m having his child--
Delilah:  and a couple weeks ago, you were considering aborting it.
Robin: (turning back swiftly and walking over to her) You know about--
Delilah:  Yeah, I could hardly believe it when I heard.
Robin:  Well, it was a very weird time in my life.  Jay and I have moved past it.
Delilah:  It still has to be mind racking though, I mean, you’re so connected to this baby now.  Don’t you question how you could have been so desperate or what could have possibly possess you that an abortion--
Robin: (snapping at Delilah) Can we not talk about this?
Delilah: I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean to upset you.
Robin: You’re not upsetting me; I just don’t want to talk about the abortion.
(<- Crystal’s Fantasy & Associates ->)
Crystal:  Now I understand why Mindy ran off, she was probably trying to restrain herself from the urge to deck you.
Alfonso:  I’m sorry;  I realize what I said sounded a bit insensitive.
Crystal:  Yes, it did.  Billy and I did not have control over what happened and I’m appalled that you would use that as a reason for walking out on your contract.
Alfonso:  That is not what I’m doing.
Billy:  Then why don’t you explain to us what you are doing?
Alfonso:  I’m doing what I think is right.  I’ve regained that thirst for life that I once had and I must hold onto it.  Now I’m sorry, but that thirst just isn’t here.
Billy:  Then I guess there is nothing else we can do then, but get out of your way.
Crystal: (she touches Billy’s shoulder and smile) and wish you luck.
(<- El Club de Moniasis ->)
Darron: (feeling a bit uneasy) It’s been a while.
Brian:  Yeah, it has.  Ever since my true parentage hit the tabloids, sorry for blaming you for that.
Darron:  It’s all right, you needed to be angry with someone, but it’s in the past.  So why are you looking for me?
Brian:  Believe it or not, I needed some advice and you were the only one I could think of.
Darron:  Advice?
Brian:  About women, love; knowing if it’s right.
Darron: (scoffs) I think you got the wrong guy.
Shalia:  Avoiding you?  Why on earth would you think that?
Derek:  Well, you didn’t come home last night, for one and then you’re running off at the first sight of me.
Shalia:  Honey, I was just taking another moment to compose myself, I assure you that I’m not avoiding you.
Derek:  All right.  (Derek turns away)
Shalia:  Is it?
Derek:  (moments pause) No, everything is not all right.
Shalia:  Well, what is it?  What’s wrong?
***Brian:  What do you mean, you’re the wrong guy?
Darron:  Have you taken a look at my love life, lately?  I’m the last person you should be consulting about advice in the love department.
Brian:  Oh, I heard about you and Widlin, I’m sorry.
Darron:  It obviously wasn’t meant to be.
Brian:  But here you are again, out doing the love thing.  I mean that’s something.
Darron:  No, I’m dating again, looking for a little fun, but love is out for me.  As far as I’m concern, it’s overrated.
Brian:  So you’re saying that it’s not worth the risk?
Darron: (realizing the depth of Brian’s question) It depends on whom you’re risking it all for.
(<- Crystal’s Fantasy & Associates ->)
Alfonso:  I want to thank you both for accepting my decision, although I know that you’re not happy about it.
Billy:  Well, we understand that need to find some purpose out of life when it has been so unyielding for so long.  So what is this new job?
Alfonso: (hesitating) I-- I think I want to keep that quiet for the time being, don’t want to jinx it.
Billy:  Oh.
Alfonso:  I just wish that Mindy could see how much this job means to me.  I would hate having to leave town with the way things are between us.  I mean, she is one of my eldest friends.
Crystal:  Perhaps that’s part of the problem.
Alfonso:  What is that suppose to mean?
Crystal:  Take some time, you’ll figure it out.
(<- Sky Lansing Condos ->)
Delilah: (walking slowly behind her) You’re not as over this abortion as you would like everyone to think.
Robin: (breaking the two minute silent) Yeah, I have questions about what I did.  They haven’t left my mind since I confessed to Jay.  They’re haunting me in my dreams, for heaven sakes.
Delilah:  Dreams?  What kind of dreams?  For how long?
Robin:  A couple of weeks.  At first, they were just silent movements between my son, Jay and me, but tonight, there were horrifying words.  My son lashing out at me in fear for what I almost did to him.
Delilah:  What you almost did, you remember that.  Because you remember that there was a life inside of you, not something you could be rid of forever with one click of the switch.  He was special, special enough for you to put your fears aside and to embrace him with your love, you tell him that, you tell him to be grateful for a life that is denied to countless children everyday.
(<- Garden Ridges Park ->)
Widlin:  What letters?
Devon:  Letters he wrote to me, but never mailed.  It was among some things my parents had kept at their house.  It couldn’t have been written that long before his death, he talks about his agony over knowing that the two women he trusts most in the world had betrayed him.  His agony is obvious by all the smeared ink.
Widlin:  I’m sorry, but what does this all have to do with my confession?
Devon:  It helps me to understand how my brother could have been driven to force himself on you.  How he could do something so violent?
Widlin:  I don’t blame your brother for what happened, I just wish that my actions that night didn’t result in his death.
Devon:  Well, my brother is dead and now that I know what happened, I think he can finally rest in peace.  Which is why I see no reason to go after you, after all, it’s not going to bring him back.
Widlin:  What are you saying?
Devon:  I’ve decided not to press charges.  (Widlin can hardly believe her ears, remaining in shock)
(<- Hunks & Beauty Fashions International ->)
Danielle:  For the last time, I am not after Lucien.  So put these delusions to rest.
Vanessa:  Then why are you always with him?
Danielle: (turning back after failing to make her way pass Vanessa successfully) Because we are working on a campaign together.  That’s what professionals do.
Vanessa:  Do professionals take each other out for dinner, too?
Danielle:   When they happen to be very good friends yes.
Vanessa:  Bull, you’re not fooling me with this do-eyed act.  You’d better watch your step.
Danielle:  Are you threatening me?
Lucien: (interrupting the ominous pause) Hey ladies, I guess you’re ready to eat.  (Lucien smiles unaware of the tension building between Danielle and Vanessa)
***Widlin:  You’re not pressing charges? (Devon expression is blank at the question) I don’t know what to say.
Devon: (he quickly outbursts in a low tone) Don’t say anything.  The last thing I want to hear is how grateful you are.
Widlin:  I wouldn’t have said that.
Devon:  Nonetheless, it really doesn’t change things because my brother is dead and you are the one that killed him.  But at least now you can rest easier.  (he then walks off, leaving Widlin not feeling very triumphant)
(<- Crystal’s Fantasy & Associates ->)
Billy: (walking up to Crystal behind the bar) That was a weird moment between you and Alfonso.  What did you mean by that statement?
Crystal:  Well, if you’re that dense, then maybe you should take some time to figure it out as well. (she smiles before trailing off to the back of the bar, Billy remains speechless for a moment and prepares to follow her, but is interrupted by a knock at the door)
Billy: (proceeding to open the door) What are you doing here?
(<- El Club de Moniasis ->)
Darron:  So is she worth the risk?
Brian:  Yeah, I think Jennifer’s worth the risk?
Darron: (devilish smile, very subtle) Jennifer, isn’t she your blond friend, the one you’re living with?  (Brian nods his head) Well, at least you got great taste.  (Both laugh) But seriously, what’s holding you back then?
Brian:  A couple of things, but the main problem is her ex.  He’s still a vibrant part of her life and it’s obvious they’re some feelings that are still there and I’m not sure I should get in the way of that.
Shalia:  My god, I can’t believe it and no one has heard from him.
Derek:  No, which is why I really need to ask you something.
Shalia:  What?
Derek:  Can you verify your whereabouts for the last two weeks?
Shalia:  Why would I need to do that?
Derek:  It’s just that I talk to Shanna and she seems to think that you were behind Ben’s disappearance.
Shalia:  What?  What motive could I possibly have for making Ben disappear?
Derek: (hesitating with the words) Well, Ben was investigating you.  That’s the reason why he was in Coral Springs.
Shalia: (looking in disbelief) Do you think I had something to do with Ben’s disappearance?

Next:
Billy: What is this about?
Agent Blaine: The death of Javier Sanchez! (~)
Darron: If you love Jennifer, then there are no greater obstacle than yourself. (~)
Shalia: I cannot believe this.  You think I had something to do with Ben’s disappearance.
