Previously on “The Mysteries of Our Lives”: Winter of Forbidden Ecstasy
Jennifer: I stop trying to figure out where Dylan is coming from because all I end up with is a migraine. (~)
Anton: What I have been saying since this bizarre chapter started, something is not right here! (~)
Kavina: You cannot continue to testify! (~)
Crystal: He thinks you know more about the shooter’s identity than you’re saying.
***Dylan: (noticing her entering the mansion) Jennifer!
Jennifer: (forceful smile) Dylan.
Dylan: Before you try to walk away from me again, there’s something I want to discuss with you.
Jennifer: and what interest could I have in anything you possibly have to say?
Dylan: The truth!
(<- Leysdale Hospital ->)
Crystal: Is it true, do you know who shot you?
Billy: Do you really think if I did, I would be covering for them?
Crystal: I don’t know. All I know is what Enrique said.
Billy: So you trust his word more than you do mine?
Crystal: This has nothing to do with trust; you were acting very weird after Enrique questioned you the other day. Now either you have an idea of who did this and you're protecting them or you know who did this and you’re planning to handle them yourself? (Javier approaches the door to Billy’s room)
(<- Hallandale Courthouse ->)
Kavina: You cannot continue to testify!
Widlin: (baffled tone) Excuse me?
Kavina: Look, I don’t have that much time to explain, but you cannot testify to what you saw.
Widlin: I hope you aren’t suggesting I perjure myself.
Kavina: No, I just want you to say that you saw me kill Leonard.
Widlin: But I didn’t, you weren't the one that shot Leonard.
*Theme Song*
Jennifer: The truth from you, that’s almost laughable.
Dylan: Well, it’s no joke. I am ready to tell you everything.
Jennifer: How many times have I heard that before? Hmm… and each time I was only left with more questions.
Dylan: This time is different—it’s imperative. It’s time I give you the whole story from start to finish.
Jennifer: No! (Dylan taken aback although Jennifer’s expression remains assured)
(<- Leysdale Hospital ->)
Billy: Either way, you seem to think Enrique was right about me withholding information about the shooter’s identity.
Crystal: You haven’t denied it!
Billy: Maybe because this whole line of questioning seems far too outrageous to me.
Crystal: Really? Or are you just not sure you want to confide in me?
Billy: Please, do not let this turn into some trust issue because it’s not.
Crystal: So you admit that you know who did this to you?
Javier: (entering the room) Crystal, Billy! (both turning to his voice)
Crystal: Javier?
Billy: (suspicious look) What are you doing here, Javier?
(<- Hallandale Courthouse ->)
Kavina: That is exactly the kind of information I need to prevent you from saying under oath.
Widlin: But my testimony could prove your innocence.
Kavina: and put the guilt on some poor unsuspecting fool and that is not going to happen.
Widlin: Then you are asking me to commit perjury?
Kavina: Well, I’m sure it wouldn’t be the first time (Widlin becomes appalled) I’m sorry, I am just desperate here.
Widlin: Yes, but not to be free, you’re desperate to take the fall for a crime you did not commit and for what? For someone who’d rather see you go to hell!
Kavina: Because I can be acquitted because the only way anyone would suspect me of committing this crime was if I went completely mad and that’s why I can’t have you testifying to what you saw and I’m sorry, that means you have to lie. Please? I have to go! (Kavina walks out leaving Widlin speechless)
***Dylan: (confused tone) No?
Jennifer: (ending with a smile) I have no intention on listening to anything you have to say ever again!
Dylan: Look, I know I have been speculative with the truth before, but—
Jennifer: (intercedes) Yes, you have, hearing the truth from you is like playing a game of “clue”.
Dylan: You think this is some kind of game for me?
Jennifer: I don’t know what you think in that twisted little brain of yours and maybe I don’t want to know. However, you seem to enjoy leading me on and then leaving me dangling your crumbs and I don’t have the energy for that anymore.
Dylan: Maybe I have used lame excuses in the past to get out of telling you the whole story, but this time is different.
Jennifer: (bluntly) It is different because I don’t care to listen anymore!
(<- Hallandale Courthouse ->)
Malina: What did you mean earlier when you said something is not right?
Anton: (noticing everyone reentering the courtroom) I can’t get into it right now, but I will have some answers by the end of the day. (preparing to walk off) Excuse me!
Malina: (startled by his sudden appearance) Beau!
Beau: Hi Malina, how's it going?
Malina: What do you want?
Joy: Ms. Pierre, I am just going to quickly paraphrase everything you said in order to refresh the juror’s memory. Please intervene if I should say something incorrectly. Okay, you testified that after realizing that your safe had been broken into, you went to confront Mr. Stone at his hotel room.
Widlin: That is correct!
Joy: Upon entering, you heard a gun being fired and you saw something. What did you see?
Widlin: I saw Kavina and Leonard—
Joy: Did you see anyone else?
Widlin: (gives a slight glance at Kavina, which Anton notices) No!
Joy: and where were Kavina and Leonard?
Widlin: They were on the bed, he was on top of her.
Joy: Are you sure? (Widlin baffled) Because Leonard was shot in the back, there is no way Kavina could have made such a perfect shot if he was on top of her.
****Javier: I just wanted to stop by and see how you both were doing. I mean, the last time I stopped by—
Billy: You were here before?
Crystal: Yeah, a couple of weeks ago, I nearly forgot, you left so suddenly.
Javier: Yeah, well things weren’t exactly looking up the last time I was here. Billy was still in critical condition and you were completely torn by the situation.
Billy: (trying to get a look at his eyes) I can see how that must have torn you.
Javier: It was just upsetting and I didn’t feel there was much I could do. I wasn’t exactly supportive of your relationship with Crystal.
Billy: That’s an understatement. (still trying to decipher his eye color)
Javier: Well, -- is there something wrong Billy? Billy?
Billy: What?
Crystal: Where were you just now? (Billy gives a slight grin as Javier becomes unnerved by the situation)
(<- Hallandale Courthouse ->)
Beau: I’d expect that kind of welcome from my cousin, but not you Malina.
Malina: Sorry I can’t be as courteous as I have been, but usually when you are around, trouble is only sure to follow.
Beau: Trouble? Have I caused some problems between you and Anton, is that why he ran off so fast?
Malina: Don’t flatter yourself! (with a smile) I just don’t want you upsetting him anymore than you already have.
Widlin: Look, I don’t know about the technicalities concerning Leonard’s shooting, but I do know what I saw. Perhaps Kavina was just trying to put his body in the bed.
Kavina: (thinking to herself) Oh god, stop talking!
Joy: No, Leonard’s body was found on the floor next to his bed.
Widlin: All right, I wasn’t around long enough to give you a minute-by-minute report on what happened. So if that’s where the body was, it must have gotten there after I left.
Joy: and why did you leave the scene of a crime, Ms. Pierre?
Widlin: Murder’s a very serious crime and I’m a very high profile figure, not exactly a very good mix. I figured I could forget that night ever happened, but then I received your subpoena.
Joy: (not fazed by the remark) I have no further questions for this witness!
Judge: Mr. Lournings, would you like to cross-examine the witness?
Lournings: Oh yes, oh yes! (Widlin prepares herself for round II)
***Lournings: Ms. Pierre, I have been going over the details of your testimony in my head and one thing stands out, you have been making way too many assumptions concerning the events of Leonard Stone’s murder considering the fact that you arrived there moments after he was shot. How do you explain that?
Widlin: Well--
Lournings: Because to me it seems more and more plausible that this testimony has been coached, without regard to details. Now is that the case, Ms. Pierre and think long and hard before answering that? (Widlin swallows hard)
Beau: Everything I do seems to upset Anton in some way or the other.
Malina: and why do you think that is?
Beau: Because I remind him of the past and a time when he was a man without conscience or scruples.
Malina: Diligently put. (walking off to the side)
Beau: It’s true, Anton was far from the good noble man he is today.
Dylan: You don’t care?
Jennifer: No, I am done playing these little games of yours.
Dylan: They’re not games!
Jennifer: Nonetheless, I am retiring from the search of truth. After all, it is in the past, perhaps that is where it should remain.
Dylan: Does that mean burying the hatchet between you and me?
Jennifer: (scoffs) Don’t count your luck!
Dylan: (sighs deeply after she walks out) It’s out of my hands now Garrett!
Billy: I must have just blacked out for a minute there.
Javier: Well, I think I better get going.
Crystal: Come on, you don’t have to leave now.
Javier: Actually, I do, but I wish you both the best of luck. (vacating) Bye!
Crystal: (Billy stepping forward to see him out) Bye! Billy? Billy?
Billy: (Crystal gets in his face) What?
Crystal: All right, what’s going on?
Billy: I don’t know what you are talking about.
Crystal: You have been staring strangely at Javier since he got here.
Billy: I just wanted to see his eyes; I wanted to see if they matched those of my shooter’s! (Crystal becomes aghast)
*Stay in Tuned for Scenes*
Next:
Crystal: (still amazed by the idea) You think Javier shot you? (~)
Widlin: I am not being coached.
Lournings: Then why are you so sketchy on the details, Ms. Pierre? (~)
Kyle: What I have planned I could not have pulled off without you.
