Previously on “The Mysteries of Our Lives”: Winter of Forbidden Ecstasy
Dana: (walking off) You can find him yourself… (turning on a light) Matthew! (~)
Brock: My brother wouldn’t trust you with his heart again, no one is that forgiving. (~)
Joy: The defense calls Anton McCloud.
Anton: Here I go again!
***Leigha: Are you stalking me?
Brock: That sounds more like something you would do!
Leigha: Oh, when are you going to let the past go? You are the one that had an affair and chose to keep it from your wife, so get off your moral high horse.
Bailiff: Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but, so help you god?
Anton: I do!
Bailiff: State your full name and occupation for the court, please?
Anton: Antonio McCloud, reporter.
Judge: Ms. Gannon, you may approach the witness.
Joy: Mr. McCloud, define your relationship with the defendant?
Anton: I have known the defendant for a number of years, we’re very good friends.
Joy: Is that all? (Anton becomes exasperated by the question)
(<- Springfield Lakes Resort ->)
Dana: (stunned upon appearance) Matthew, what are you doing in my apartment? Your brother has been--
Matthew: Escaping my brother and you cannot tell him where I am.
Earl: Dana, are you in there? I need to talk to you! (Dana turns to the sound and back to Matthew in astonishment)
*Theme Song*
Anton: Yes, the defendant and I are just friends.
Joy: Great, now let’s move into the night in question, the night of Leonard Stone’s murder. You recall seeing Ms. Shah before she left that night, is that correct?
Anton: Yes!
Joy: Could you describe her behavior that night?
Anton: Pretty normal, she was late for a night class and really didn’t want to miss it.
Joy: In other words, she seem very rational and had no malicious intent in mind.
Anton: Not that I could see! The last thing I could imagine was for her to go out and commit murder.
Joy: So then you do believe Kavina was not herself when she committed this crime? (eyes rise suddenly to her)
Liam: You never answered my question.
Rochelle: It’s a thought I rather never crossed my mind or yours!
Liam: Yeah, rather gruesome, isn’t it? So whatever it is in that courtroom you were getting your kicks from, just make sure it isn’t at your own expense.
Rochelle: (nonchalant tone) Hardly!
Liam: I hope so because if the defense arguments continue to be supported, it will be!
Brock: Don’t try to turn this around on me to make yourself feel better.
Leigha: That sounds more like your style!
Ralph: All right, that is enough! Brock, I was having a private conversation with Leigh and it does not concern you, so I don’t need your input because I am more than capable of speaking for myself.
Brock: I’m aware of that, but trusting Leigha Gray period is a mistake and you learned that the hard way, don’t repeat the same mistake twice. (Leigha becomes annoyed by Brock’s words)
Ralph: and how are you any different? You came to town all noble and criticizing Samantha for having an affair she never did and kept the affair you had a secret. You have no right to criticize anyone. (Leigha grins at Ralph’s response and Brock’s reaction)
***Brock: I’m not going to take that seriously because you’re obviously caught up in protecting this woman for whatever reasons you feel obligated to, I just hope its worth it.
Leigha: Can we just-- (grunts in frustration while pulling her hair back from her face)
Brock: The truth getting to you Leigha!
Leigha: (walking off) Your condescending tone is, excuse me Ralph, if you need to find me, I’ll be in the courtroom. (Brock turns to his brother expecting him to do something)
Brock: You know that distress act was for your benefit, don’t you?
Ralph: No and I highly doubt it was, perhaps Leigh was sick of hearing you slander her because I know I am.
Brock: It isn’t slander when it’s true.
Ralph: and it isn’t right when you use it to hurt someone. (Brock stunned by his brother’s lack of understanding)
Liam: Hey, I didn’t mean to scare you into silence.
Rochelle: (looking a bit lost) You didn’t, I’m just--
Liam: Thinking about what I just said, good because this is not something you should take lightly.
Rochelle: and what if Kavina did go free, what’s the worst that could happen?
Liam: Do you really want to know?
Rochelle: I’m just saying she could be a complete outcast and driven right out of Hallandale. (Liam appears unconvinced)
(<- Springfield Lakes Resort ->)
Dana: (fainted tone) Earl!
Earl: Well, don’t sound so surprise to see me, you had to be expecting me after that little scene earlier.
Dana: Well, it’s late and I am still having some delayed effects of jet lag, you’re going to have to find someone else to help you. Or perhaps you can take this conversation up with me tomorrow. (anxiously opening the door)
Earl: You can actually sleep knowing my brother is out there somewhere--- lost, maybe hurt. (Dana staring at the closet)
Dana: (regains her focus on him) Your brother knows where and how to reach me, so if he needs my help, he will ask me for it. Either way, I am not going to cover much ground in and out of consciousness. So if you don’t mind, I would like you to leave.
Earl: Fine! (Dana glances at the closet door again as she walks to the door) But before I go, do you mind explaining why your eyes have been focused on that door since I arrived. Is there someone in there? (Dana becomes agitated)
***Dana: (scoffs) Don’t be ridiculous!
Earl: What’s so ridiculous about it?
Dana: Look, I really am tired and I don’t have time for these paranoid little games of yours, so please leave!
Earl: Well, if I wasn’t convinced before, I am now!
Matthew: (forcing the closet door open) You’re one to insinuate about lies! (Earl looks in his brother’s fierce eyes)
(<- Hallandale Courthouse ->)
Anton: I don’t believe most people are themselves when they commit crimes of this nature.
Joy: Would that be a simple yes or no, Mr. McCloud?
Anton: It’s a yes!
Joy: Thank you, I guess it would take into account your doubts that Kavina would commit such a crime.
Anton: I’m not sure I know what you mean.
Joy: Well, you did have previous doubts that Kavina was the actual person who murdered Leonard Stone, did you not? (gallery murmurs)
Lournings: Objection, your honor!
Joy: Withdrawn! (with a smug grin towards Lournings)
Liam: That sounds like wishful thinking to me or perhaps you’re trying to visualize the positive aspects of the possibility that Kavina could go free.
Rochelle: It beats focusing on the negatives.
Liam: But then you’re trapping yourself in a parallel universe.
Rochelle: (aggravated tone) What do you want me to do then, Liam? You tell me Kavina could go free and not to take pleasure from someone else’s humiliation and then when I start taking what you said seriously, you’re saying I am not taking it seriously enough!
Brock: Man, she really has pulled the wool over your eyes.
Ralph: No one has pulled the wool over my eyes, I see things perfectly clear.
Brock: Do you? Do you? This is the same woman who no more than a couple of months ago was stalking my wife, sending her threatening letters with sick sentiments attached.
Ralph: That is in the past!
Brock: Just like the fact that she used you to exact her revenge on me. She lured you into her web of manipulations and her bed all because of me, what makes you think she isn’t doing it again?
Ralph: Have you ever considered you have too much free time on your hands, bro.? Keep your nose out of where it does not belong! (pacing off, leaving Brock to contemplate his actions)
***Leigha: (Ralph sitting down next to her in court) Hey, you took a little long, what happened between you and your brother?
Ralph: He had more ugly things to say and then I said mine! (Leigha a little baffled by the comment)
Joy: Your honor, I have no further questions for this witness. (Lournings stares untouched by her answer)
Judge: Mr. Lournings?
Lournings: Yes, your honor, I am fully ready to question the witness.
Leigha: I have a bad feeling about this.
Ralph: What is it?
Leigha: Well, since this is the defense last witness, the prosecution is going to need to discredit Anton’s testimony, which mean this could get nasty.
Liam: I’m sorry, how about we drop this subject?
Rochelle: Gladly, unfortunately, that leaves me with only one option.
Liam: and what’s that?
Rochelle: To rejoin my friends and co-workers to await the outcome of this travesty of a trial.
Liam: You’re really dreading that, aren’t you?
Rochelle: Yeah, it reminds me what really makes me feel sorry Dean-- almost! I mean, he’s the one who has to await the verdict of this trial to see if Kavina is properly punished and if she gets off scott free, it could change his life forever!
*Stay in Tuned for Scenes*
Next:
Andrew: He and Ben seem so different.
Shanna: (saying abruptly) How did you know about my ex-husband? (~)
Matthew: I can’t trust you anymore and the sad part is, you’re my brother. (~)
Dean: I swear on your grave that if the law doesn’t make Kavina pay, I sure as hell will. (~)
Robin: (alarming her husband) I don’t feel so good!
