Romain Chandler
Romain, brilliant pathologist and earnest man, had no idea what he was getting himself into when he agreed to go on a dinner date with his colleague, Dr. Laura Sedwick.  Of course, Laura had more than dinner in mind, or let's say, she had an appetite for something not on her dinner plate: Romain Chandler.  Romain, however, was unsettled by her brute force and commanding behavior, but when she put on the "I'm not beautiful enough" act and then attacked his manhood, he quickly showed her that he could hold his own.  Romain's "secret" life before he became a respected pathologist in Hallandale had a lot to do with his response to Laura's attack on his manhood.  So much so that the next morning, he felt a degree of guilt for giving into Laura's angry desires and avoided his one-night stand until the Masquerade Ball, where he could hide no longer.  Laura knew that he was avoiding her and she wanted to know why.  He told her that he felt she needed to work out whatever issues were brewing deep inside her before they could have any kind of relationship.  Laura, however, took it as Romain giving her the boot after getting what he wanted, which was ironic since he originally tried to turn down her advances.  A part of her knew though that Romain was right, but she would work out all her issues in the completely wrong way.

Romain soon found himself caught in the middle of a plan gone awry when after being confronted by Taneia Ralston over the bank statements she lifted, Laura blew up Blanchencore Hospital.  Romain, who arrived just minutes before the fateful boom, was assumed dead along with Crystal.  After healing nicely at a hospital in Springfield, he confronted the deranged lunatic and told her that she wouldn't be getting out of her current predicament (prison) so easily.  He was wrong.  Laura escaped and went right after Crystal, who was still recuperating in Springfield.  Although Laura suceeded in capturing Crystal, due to Romain and Darron's team effort, she was rescued before any serious damage was done.  Laura, still vengeful, lured an unsuspecting Taneia back to Hallandale, where she chased her down to the edge of town.  If it hadn't been for Kyle's quick reflexes, Laura would have suceeded in pushing Taneia off the cliff that lies above the shores of Pacific Palisades.  Unfortunately for Laura, she lunged at Taneia too late and end up going over the cliff, ending that saga for good.

Romain would go on to meet newly arrived Sherri Reynolds, who he fell for almost initially.  She was someone he was able to share his life with, including some of the most intimate details of his childhood.  Unfortunately for him, he wasn't as forthcoming with the part of his life he didn't want to discuss- his time in North Dakota, which became a major problem in his relationship with Sherri because the last man she loved and trusted slept with her sister.  The fact that Romain started out being so open with her and was now being secretive was too much for Sherri to handle, especially when North Dakota became such a vocal part in his life (first driving him out of town around Christmas time and then intruding on their dinner time with out of nowhere phone calls).  In reference to North Dakota, not much is known about Romain's time there except that it involved Dane Castaņello, a patient of a mental health facility who has an obsession and perhaps even something more for Romain, who he nicknames "Romie."  Dane also revealed in his last appearance with the series that he was the reason Romain was the man he is today.

Back to Sherri's handle on the North Dakota situation, the truth of the matter was that she kept seeing Romain through Mitchell's eyes, which soon became apparent.  Still, Romain felt he had a right to his privacy and Sherri should have trusted him enough to respect that, but she didn't.  When he later confessed to her that he was falling in love with her, she saw it merely as a deceptive tactic to lure her into his good graces, proving she obviously had no idea what kind of man he was.  Inspite of being wrongly villanified by her, he still continued to pursue her.  When it became clear that Sherri was too trapped in her own past to see any possible future they could have, he washed his hands of her after several failed attempts by her sister, Sandy, to bring the two back together.  Since calling it quits with Sherri for good, Romain has taken an active interest in Sandy.  Whether that interest is strictly platonic, stay tuned.
