Garrett hasn't had a very good track record when it comes to men.  While living in Grangefield, she became involved with Thomas Eldridge, who was always caught in the middle of his family's never-ending drama, that romance for the two sizzled before it even started.  She would later become involved with Dylan McCloud and move to Hallandale to be closer to him.  At first, they seemd like the perfect young, post-teen couple with raging hormones and a great amount of love to share.  However, things took a strange turn when Garrett begin receiving calls from the past, or more importantly, an old friend in Grangefield by the name of Christian LeBlanc, who Dylan was insanely jealous of.  While Garrett tried to explain that Christian was going through a rough time and needed a friend, Dylan could not see past his irrational insecurities.  In fact, when Garrett was determined to visit Christian, Dylan desperately hired Frankie Lancaster to frighten her with a mock mugging in the parking lot of Mercy Hospital.  Unfortunately for Frankie, Dr. Jay Elkasinogen heard Garrett's screams and came running to the rescue, scaring him off.  However, the desired effect was achieved.  Garrett was so frighten by the experience that she stayed closer to Dylan... until she learned he was the mastermind behind the whole attack.

A guilt-ridden Frankie Lancaster revealed all to Brian Fieldings, who already had his suspicions about Dylan.   When Garrett learned of the truth from Brian, she could not believe in her heart of hearts that Dylan would do something so sick.  The man Brian was trying to get Garrett to believe Dylan had become just seem like a stranger to her.  However, once the words were forced out Dylan's own mouth, Garrett demanded a reason as to why.  His justification that he did not feel she loved him enough made it even more infathomable.  After weeks of avoiding the damage done to their relationship, Garrett realized there was no repairing the rift that Dylan had caused and moved out.  However, she was not free from running into the constant reminders of what Dylan had done to her, namely Frankie Lancaster.  She didn't see him in a very positive light either, but after some time, she managed to warm up more to him than her ex.  She later made it painfully clear to Frankie that she could not forget what he almost did, putting a complete halt to any kind of relationship for the duo. Nonetheless, it didn't stop Jennifer from insinuating that something was going on.  Of course, Garrett's interest had been peaked by the arrival of mysterious charmer, Romeo Sullivan, Jennifer's ex- boyfriend.  Despite her initial dislike of the cocky charmer, she can't help but feel some kind of gravitational pull toward him.
