Dean, Leonard Stone's twin brother, came to Hallandale in search of justice for his brother's murder.  However, he mishandled the situation by teaming up with Officer Aubrey Capitulous to make the rest of the town believe Leonard was alive.  In addition, he hoped to trap Officer Capitulous' number one suspect -- Rochelle Desmores -- into a confession. Unfortunately for him and Aubrey, Lacreasha Dupree was never sold on the idea of Leonard's miraculous return from the dead.  It only became clear to her and Kyle months later that it was because Dean was masquerading as the deceased gatekeeper.  Lacreasha blew the lid off that can of worms just before the ruling in the case against Rochelle for the attempted murder of Leonard Stone was about to be made.  Once the judge saw the evidence, Dean had no choice, but to admit his true identity.  This, of course, tainted Aubrey Capitulous's representation, as well as her case against Rochelle, resulting in the judge declaring a mistrial.  Dean tried to explain to Rochelle why he went along with the plan, but was graced with a slap in the face and a request to never show his face around her again.  Dean, however, did not honor her request as he believed Rochelle was his only hope for finding out what happened to his brother and if anyone wanted to see his brother's killer brought to justice more than he did, it had to be her.

Despite being angry with Dean, Rochelle agreed to help him find his brother's killer.  After reviewing a list of all the viable suspects, their suspicions directed them to one person – Kavina Shah.  While Dean ascertained that sometimes murder is in the eyes of the most unlikely suspect, Rochelle couldn't believe that the Kavina she knew was capable of cold-blooded murder.  Even so, she decided to look around her friend's home.  When Rochelle discovered bloody sheets stored away in a secret passageway of Kavina's home, her fears were confirmed and she immediately attempted to leave the house.  Unfortunately, Kavina arrived and soon realized that Rochelle was one to her.  Rochelle tried to convince her friend to turn herself in, but that was not an option for Kavina, who knocked out her best friend with the nearest blunt object.  When Rochelle gained consciousness, she found herself staring down the barrel of Kavina's gun.  Despite managing to overpower Kavina and slip away for a few minutes, enough time to make a call to Dean, Kavina regained the upperhand and prepared to execute her best friend when Rochelle demanded to know why Kavina had killed Leonard.  This moved allowed Rochelle enough time for reinforcements, followed by Kyle and Lacreasha, to infiltrate the place.  In lue of turning the tables and nearly killing herself, Kavina was brought into police custody, mostly due to the arrivals of Royce and Kendall, who were able to talk her out of anymore misdoings.  For Dean, Kavina's arrest was the culmination of justice finally being achieved for his brother.  Rochelle, however, couldn't help, but sympathize with Kavina for everything she had done.  This resulted in an air of friction between her and Dean, who couldn't believe that Rochelle was justifying Kavina killing his brother after everything that went down.

Dean spent the next several weeks making sure that the prosecution's office was prepared to throw the book at Kavina.  However, Kavina's defense attorney was able to make such an effective case that Kavina received a lighter sentence – a year in an Anger Management Facility. The sentence outraged Dean and he vowed on his brother's grave to make sure that Kavina got the punishment she so richly deserved.
